The Workspace · Land Management & Urban Planning
Land decisions you can defend.
A corridor mispriced by one parcel. A breach that netted to zero. A site shortlisted that could never be consented. These are not modelling errors — they are budget overruns, enforcement failures and abandoned schemes, and they begin in a spreadsheet built from areas measured off a projected map. This reads your own cadastre and returns a schedule that shows its working.
Three ways to deal with an affected parcel.
The scheme clips a plot. Take the strip and compensate the loss in value of what is left; take the plot whole when the remainder is too small to build on; or move the alignment and take nothing. Each option carries a number, and the workspace produces all three.
Two ways to read the same breach.
Net encroachment against shortfall and a building half outside its approved envelope reports as compliant, because it under-delivered by the same amount somewhere else. We never net them.
Two ways to measure the same parcel.
Areas taken off Web Mercator inflate with latitude — about 21% at 24°N. On a compensation schedule that is not a rounding difference; it is the gap between a figure that holds up and one that gets challenged. Every area here is geodesic.

Worked example on sample cadastral data, not a client project. Every figure is produced by the workspace and exported as a report — no re-keying between the map and the schedule.
Six jobs, one workspace
- Expropriation Schedule of takes, severance, disturbance — and the full takes you are obliged to buy.
- Deviation As-built against as-consented, graded from tolerance to material breach.
- Land record Geodesic area, perimeter, frontage and compactness, with the attribute record.
- Site suitability Hard constraints bar; weights rank what survives. A score never overrides a legal bar.
- Development capacity Plot ratio against the height envelope, reporting which one actually binds.
- Plan metrics Land-use composition, green share, and open space per person against benchmark.
Also used for: Utility corridors and wayleaves · Land banking and portfolio review · Informal settlement regularisation · Compensation audit and dispute support · Handover QA for master developers · Zoning-change impact assessment · Post-disaster land readjustment · Infrastructure levy and betterment capture
Buy a licence and it opens straight away. Or ask for a trial and we will set it up against your own compensation rates, deviation tolerances and plot standards first — we review those by hand. Nothing to install. The analysis runs as client-side WebAssembly — the files you open are processed in your browser and never reach The Geo Lab or this server.
Deployments are configured to your own rates, heads of claim, minimum plot sizes and tolerances — the defaults are a starting point, not the method. Built on GeoLibre, an independent open-source project (MIT), extended by The Geo Lab.
Testimonials
I worked with Omar on the Green Riyadh Project and found him exceptionally skilled in GIS. His problem-solving and teamwork were remarkable. I highly recommend him for any GIS or planning role.
